Dr. MilesQuality Quest’s Preventive Care Calculator provides a thorough preventive health assessment in just a few minutes. More care providers are tapping into this resource for a quick report on recommended screenings.

Dr. Christopher Miles from Methodist Medical Group in Washington uses the calculator to help evaluate every patient.

“I usually pull it up in front of them. They sometimes give me funny looks when I go out to the Internet during their visit, but they usually respond well when they can see - spelled out - each individual service that is recommended,” Dr. Miles said.

The Quality Quest website was introduced to Dr. Miles during his residency and he adopted the calculator immediately. The calculator is based on adult preventive care guidelines from the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI).

“If my patients have specific questions, the calculator allows them to see that it is not just me that is recommending it. It is coming from evidence-based recommendations and we’re going with that,” Dr. Miles said.

Dr. Miles recommends the Preventive Care Calculator to medical residents and any primary care physician responsible for making sure patients keep up on preventive health.

“It is certainly a great reminder to make sure patients are up-to-date on their routine health. We are so busy, we have little time to try to address all of those things, so it is a nice check system that I can just run down the list and make sure they’ve had all of their recommended screenings. If they don’t, we can get them ordered.”

Evidence is information that is used to determine or demonstrate the truth of an assertion.  In the field of health, Evidence is collected in an orderly way to help us understand what to do.  This information can come from medical research.
