Central Illinois Health Information Exchange

The Central Illinois Health Information Exchange (CIHIE) remains on target to ‘go live’ in 2011. Charter members selected ICA (Informatics Corporation of America) as their  technology partner, and CIHIE is now making preparations for implementation.  This week, ICA representatives are meeting with charter member IT teams to gather technical requirements. During the course of the technology selection process, site visits were made to organizations that have been using HIE successfully in Memphis and Nashville. Staff at a Federally Qualified Health Clinic said of health information exchange, “We love it. We use it for every patient. It saves all the faxing and calling we used to do. It makes our doctors more efficient.” Other health informatin exchange updates include:

• Joy Duling, the Interim Executive Director of CIHIE, presented an update on the region’s progress to the Governor-appointed HIE Authority at their Springfield meeting on June 22nd..

• Jim Mormann, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at OSF Healthcare System and Gail Amundson, MD, Quest CEO. were appointed to the state level HIE Advisory Committee to represent central Illinois.

• The first annual meeting of the Central Illinois Health Information Exchange will take place on Tuesday, July 12 from 2-4:00 p.m. at the ISU Alumni Center in Normal. The new CIHIE Board of Directors will be installed and celebrate a successful milestone in the fiirst two years of health information exchange planning. Anyone is welcome to attend. Central Illinois HIE Summit: Patient Care and Connectivity

Regional Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) promise to revolutionize healthcare communication and delivery. This conference will address provider questions and concerns:

• How does it work?   

• What are the advantages for me?

• How does HIE enhance care coordination?

• What is the patient perspective?

• Why is it important to our region?

We are pleased to have Dr. Neal Patel as our keynote speaker. Dr. Patel is the Chief Medical Information Officer for Inpatient Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, as well as the Co-Medical Director of Pediatric Critical Care Services at Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. An HIE Functionality Demonstration will follow the conference.

Radiation Dose Pocket Card Available on Website

Participants who attended our High Tech Imaging Use and Radiation Safety conferences in May were each given a pocket card that shows the radiation dose and equivalent number of chest X-rays for commonly ordered procedures.
